Summer Camp Job Opportunities

In Matthew 22:34-40, Jesus was asked what the greatest commandment in the Law was. "Jesus replied: 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."
We have summarized what Jesus said are the two greatest commandments into this simple phrase, "Love God, Love People!" At Black Rock, that is what we are all about, as is evident in our motto "To Know Christ and Make Him Known!" If you feel that you may be called to "Love God and Love People" through a summer of camping ministry, then please consider serving at Black Rock!

The Black Rock Summer Camp program is 10 weeks long, including a pre-camp training week. We minister to both churched and non-churched youth, from rural, suburban, and urban areas, ages 7-17. There is also "Special Week", which is a camp devoted to providing a summer camp experience for mentally handicapped adults. Each summer, we hire approximately 40 young people to form the staff that will make our program become a reality!

If you would like to work at camp, but are concerned about meeting your financial needs, we understand. Many young adults have significant financial responsibilities to meet from car payments to college tuition. In light of that fact, we offer 2 options for financial compensation in return for your ministry to our campers. Even though summer camp is a mission field, you do not need to raise support, as we are able to provide a salary in addition to room and board. However, staff also have the option of soliciting the donation of funds for the ministry of Black Rock in addition to their base salary and then receiving that money back in the form of a scholarship. 90% of all money you raise for Black Rock goes right back to you, while Black Rock retains 10% of those funds to offset the cost of administrative processing fees. Your donors will receive a tax-deductible receipt from Black Rock Retreat for their contribution as we are a not-for-profit ministry. A maximum salary cap is in place which includes both the weekly base salary and any donations. With this option you may consider yourself a "missionary" and ask family and friends to support your ministry with Black Rock Summer Camp. Raising support can be challenging, but the Lord can really use this tool to help you step out in faith as He provides for your needs and we are glad to help you with this process in any way we can.
All staff reside on the property during the entire summer camp program and receive one day off per week. Staff are allowed to leave the property on their time off. Perhaps the greatest benefit that the summer staff receives from working at Black Rock is the incredible opportunity that they have to give back to the Lord by serving our campers and helping them come to know Christ and make Him known to others. During this process, you will have the opportunity to grow and deepen your own relationship with the Lord as well, and we're just as serious about helping facilitate that in our staff as we are our campers. Make no mistake about it, this kind of ministry is very challenging, but in light of what Jesus did for us on the cross, it is well worth it!
