It is with great pleasure and anticipation that we introduce our next Executive Director of Black Rock Retreat, Peter Fiorello. Peter has enthusiastically accepted the position and will commence his leadership full time in September. He will be on site periodically throughout the summer as he makes his transition from his current post.
Some background: Peter is currently Executive Director of Camp Spofford in Spofford, New Hampshire where he has served since January 2011. Prior to that, Peter held Executive Director posts at Youth for Christ in Erie, PA and at Sacandaga Bible Camp in Broadalbin, NY. He holds a BA degree in Youth Ministry from Colorado Christian University with minors in Biblical Studies and Outdoor Leadership.
Peter is married to Bethany. They have three children – 12, 9, and 6 years old. His interests? Peter is a soccer fanatic and admits a slight obsession with Italian pastries. His favorite place to be at Spofford is on the soccer field or on water-skis. The Fiorellos have extended family in Lancaster County and are looking forward to becoming part of our Pennsylvania community and the Black Rock Retreat family.
As a Search Committee, we were blessed with more than 40 candidates. After a rigorous interview process, Peter’s candidacy rose to the top as most compelling for this next chapter in our ministry. He brings deep experience in the camping world, significant leadership prowess, and a deep faith with commitment to bringing more children, youth and adults to relationship with Christ. Peter enjoys casting vision and mobilizing a team to pursue God’s call and direction. We believe he will be a distinctive leader helping move Black Rock to even greater heights as we work to fulfill our aspirational vision:
Black Rock Retreat reflects our Creator at every touch point so people of all ages are positively impacted and drawn to a life-changing relationship with Christ. Recognizing the spiritual needs of our growing community, empowered team members serve intentionally through Gospel-inspired innovations.
….as well as operationalize our day to day mission:
Black Rock Retreat is dedicated to spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ and strengthening His church. We provide quality facilities, programs, and a serving staff within a refuge of God’s creation which encourages spiritual growth and restoration.
Peter builds on the outstanding foundation John Shertzer and the current staff have built, continuing to foster strong relationships with our many stakeholders, supporters, and guests. John will partner with Peter in the early months of his transition. We thank John (and Henrietta) for their many contributions to Black Rock Retreat over the last 10+ years as well as the continuing commitment to a successful passing of the torch and a sustaining heart for the ministries of Black Rock.
Please welcome Peter, Bethany and their children to our family as your paths cross in the weeks and months to come. We covet your prayers for a smooth Fiorello Family transition, a fulfilling retirement for John, and blessings for the continued work of our ministry.
