Family Weekend Getaways – FAQ

Will “Physical Distancing” be required?

Yes, per CDC recommendations, we ask that your family unit keep 6 feet of distance from other families.  This does not mean you can’t interact, we just ask that you keep this minimum distance as you make new friends!  Parents are responsible for the whereabouts of their children at all times and to ensure that they are following the recommended distancing.

Will we have to wear masks?

All guests age 2 or older who do not have a medical condition that prohibits them from wearing a mask must wear one in any indoor locations other than their own lodging. Masks should also be worn outdoors if physical distancing is not able to be maintained.

How will the meals be served?

Meals will be served either individually packed or as a family meal that you can take to enjoy outdoors or in your lodging.

Do we have to purchase a meal package?

No, meal packages are optional.  We are offering a five meal package (Saturday Breakfast – Sunday Lunch) that also includes 2 evening snacks, or you can just purchase Saturday dinner and bring your own food for other meals.  We highly recommend that meal packages are purchased for all members of your household if staying in a cabin or retreat center room as they do not have a place to store or prepare food.

What about food allergies?

With advance notice, we can provide gluten-free, dairy free, and vegetarian meal options.  All meals will be peanut and tree nut free. Please contact our Food Service Director at sbishop@brr.org at least 7 days in advance of your stay.  If you have other specific needs please bring supplemental food items.

What can our family do while at Black Rock Retreat?

The CDC and PA Health Department are encouraging everyone to get outside and we want to do the same.  We have lots of outdoor options that can be done in keeping with Physical Distancing guidelines.  The pool will be open from 12-5pm on Saturday and Sunday and we have lots of sports areas available for use (just remember to bring your own equipment) or you can take a hike along our trails or even visit the Octoraro Creek that borders our property.

Will anything not be available?

Due to current guidelines the gym and nature center will not be available during Family Campground Weekends.

What if we get sick, can we reschedule?

Yes, in fact we are asking all members of your family to monitor your health both before, during, and after your weekend.  In anyone in your family is exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 or has a resting temperature of 100.4 degrees or higher, you will be asked to reschedule your weekend until cleared by your primary care physician or have been symptom free for 3 days and it has been at least 10 days since the symptoms first appeared.

Black Rock Retreat will also stay apprised of any recommendations of the CDC and will consider action accordingly.  Further, Black Rock Retreat may remove any safety measures listed once the CDC or the United States, state, or local governments deem such measures are no longer necessary.
