Black Rock Retreat Winter Youth Retreats

We are pleased to announce that we will once again be offering 2 Winter Youth Retreats for you to choose from! First, our annual Jr. High Winter Retreat will be held on December 27-29, 2009 for anyone in 6th-8th grade. This event was a huge success last year and we're grateful for all who attended and hope that the experience will continue to help you grow closer to the Lord!!
We are also proud to introduce the THIRD ANNUAL Sr. High Winter Retreat from February 12-14, 2010 for anyone in 9th-12th grade! This weekend promises the same high energy experience of Teen Week during summer camp, with a wintertime twist! You won’t want to miss out on this exciting opportunity! Spaces are limited so register today!
Our speaker for this year's Jr. High Winter Retreat is Matt Saxinger! Matt Saxinger, pastor at Christ Evangelical Free Church, works with Post High, a ministry for young adult students, and considers it a great opportunity to serve the Lord and grow at the same time. Matt says that while being a pastor is an amazing thing, it certainly was not what he always wanted in life. Though he was saved at a young age, most of his life was lived on the basis of, "I'll be a good kid and just do whatever I want." While that doesn't always seem like such a bad thing, it was a selfish and empty pursuit. Thankfully the Lord did not let him to stray too far before He allowed Matt to realize that there is no better place to be in life than at the feet of the Savior. That's true for every person, whether you’re a pastor, business man, stay-at-home mom, or Jr. high student; there is truly no better place, and it's through prayer that we realize this, and live a life that worships Jesus Christ.
Along with being a pastor, Matt is the husband of an amazing wife who is an absolute blessing to his life. They have been married for over a year and it has been the best time of his life. Matt says “she is his best friend, helping me to grow spiritually and to simply enjoy life.” When Matt gets some time to relax, he enjoys fishing, hunting, sports, traveling and lots of other fun stuff.
Our Sr. High Winter Retreat speaker is Jason Soucinek!
Jason Soucinek is an Associate Staff Member of the
Center for Parent/Youth Understanding. He lives in Spokane, Washington and is a graduate of Whitworth College. Upon completing his education he worked several years in advertising until the Lord brought him into full time youth ministry. He is now the director of a relationship and media education program, iPULSE, which is dedicated to seeing students enter into an authentic relationship with Jesus Christ and challenge the sexual status quo of the current youth culture by saving sex until marriage. In its first two years of operation iPULSE, which uses today’s popular media to deliver the abstinence until marriage message to students, has reached more than 7,500 students using several multi-media platforms. With a passion to challenge the sexual status quo of the current youth culture, Jason strives to create resources that encounter teenagers "in the trenches" while also helping bridge the generation gap between parent and teen.
Jason lives in Spokane, Washington and enjoys living life to its fullest!
YOUTH GROUPS are also invited to join us for this exhilarating winter weekend! We’ll provide the games, activities, program, speaker, music, worship, food, lodging, entertainment, and staff! All you have to do is come and enjoy! Maybe some of your students have already been to Black Rock as a summer camper or with your group for a retreat. Here’s a chance to do something new and add some great memories to your Black Rock experience! Our motto at Black Rock is, “To Know Christ and Make Him Known!” It is our desire that every aspect of these retreats will do just that! If you can’t put together a group, but know of individuals in a youth group who would like to come…send them anyway! We’ll have plenty of our own staff to serve as “counselors” and spend the retreat with them. Their goal is to be there to serve our campers in any way they can!
All youth leaders are welcome! This is a great opportunity to come and just spend some quality time with the students you minister to while we take care of all the work! Maybe there’s someone in your youth group that you’ve really wanted to sit down and talk to, but just haven’t been able to find the uninterrupted time to do it. Perhaps you’re so busy with the planning and administration required for implementing your own events that you don’t really get to enjoy them yourself and spend much quality time with your students. This could be a wonderful chance to deepen some relationships and have a blast doing it...without the stress of leading a retreat!
Join our Youth Leader’s meetings during the retreat. On the first Friday night of the retreat we will have a Youth Leader orientation to Black Rock Winter Retreats where we will introduce key staff, briefly discuss the schedule and flow of the weekend, and allow you to ask questions. We will also collect names of students you would like us to pray for throughout the weekend. There will be another meeting/prayer time on the first morning of the retreat right after breakfast and before the morning session. On the last morning we will give you an opportunity to share testimonies of how God worked in the lives of your youth over the weekend and then give us feedback on how we can make our retreats better! We hope you will join us for these important meetings that can help enable us to serve you better. The time and location of the meetings will be communicated at the initial orientation meeting.
